Commack Orthodontics For Children
While there’s no minimum age for a child to see an orthodontist, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have their first orthodontic evaluation by around the age of seven. Bluebird Orthodontics agrees! By this time in a child’s life, most will have a good mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth. That makes it easier for Dr. Dorie Frank to diagnose any potential issues before they have the chance to become more serious. This type of early, or interceptive, treatment, allows us to:
- correct and guide the growth of the child’s jaw in order to help permanent teeth grow in straight
- regulate the width of the upper and lower arches
- create more space for crowded teeth
- correct extended thumb- or finger-sucking habits
- help improve minor speech problems
- reduce or eliminate the need for permanent tooth extractions later in life
Although it’s difficult to assess a child’s need for orthodontics without an actual evaluation, there are a few things to look out for, including:
- losing teeth much earlier or later than normal
- difficulties with chewing or biting
- mouth breathing
- finger or thumb-sucking
- crowded or misplaced teeth
- jaws that pop or make other sounds when opening and closing
- teeth that come together abnormally
- teeth that don’t come together at all
- jaws and teeth that don’t seem proportionate to the rest of the face
- front teeth that are crowded from around age seven or eight
Commack Orthodontics For Teens
If your teen is in need of orthodontic treatment, you may find yourself feeling anxious about the time, commitment, and finances involved. Bluebird Orthodontics is here to help! Modern orthodontic treatment today is more comfortable, customizable, and affordable than ever before. Everyone deserves a beautiful smile, and we can help you finance it by offering no-interest and low-down payment options in-office. We also participate with most PPO insurances, Medicaid for children, as well as local unions. We’ll work with you to maximize your benefits and minimize your out-of-pocket costs, and can verify your benefits at your initial consultation.
One of the questions we hear most often from teen patients is, “how long will I need to be in braces?” Unfortunately, there’s no “one size fits all” answer to that, since every patient will need a different amount of treatment, and will respond to that treatment in their own way. While there’s no concrete answer for how long a patient will need to wear braces or an aligner, teens play a big role in their own treatment! By follow our instructions, caring for their appliance, and maintaining an excellent oral hygiene routine, they can help keep treatment times to a minimum.
Commack Orthodontics For Adults
Orthodontic treatment isn’t just for kids and teens! According to the American Association of Orthodontists, almost 25% of current orthodontic patients are over the age of 18. As we get older, we often begin to understand better how important oral health is. This may also be the first time an adult has had the chance to commit to improving their smile, or they could be looking to complete or redo treatment they had in their younger years.
Better treatment options is also a factor in more adults seeking treatment. Along with metal braces, our practice offers ceramic braces and Invisalign clear aligners for both adults and teens. At Bluebird Orthodontics, there’s a treatment option to fit every lifestyle and personality!
